It seems that Google Base will soon become the main competitor of eBay. Indeed, they are planning to let people buy some items on Google Base providing them a payment gateway, also. Users can use their own Google Account, going on keeping a single sign on procedure to access Google wide range of services. They are still far from the high quality auction engine provided by eBay, but surely they are as much big and smart to quickly offer an easy-to-use platform to buy/sell items online.
