“Unico” is the main news coming from Barcelona, where Telecom Italia organized his annual convention.
This is a new fixed-mobile telephone, based on the UMA technology, through which you can place calls from your wifi network (provided by Telecom Italia, together with its ADSL offering) at home, and use it as a mobile phone while you are outside.
The device bundled with this offering is the Samsung SGH - P200, a dual mode mobile phone.
What about fees? For 15€ / month, you can call for free any PSTN number in Italy and TIM mobile phones while you are at home, and two TIM phone numbers and one PSTN number while you are using the GSM network.
Together with this offering, Telecom Italia will launch their mobile TV, thanks to an agreement with the italian group Mediaset.
Well, to be honest, I think the Vodafone’s offering is much more aggressive. With Telecom’s offering, at the end you pay a lot of money (dsl line monthly fee + PSTN line fee + UNICO fee). L
Anyway, It is funny watching their corresponding TV ads: in the Vodafone TV spot you can see people “unplugging” the telephone plug, instead in the Telecom Italia’s spot you can see people plugging it. Great!
