Vodafone: number portability from your fixed line

After this move a few months ago, Vodafone announced (italian article) today that their customers in Italy can now move their home fixed line phon number to their mobile phone, permanently unplugging from the fixed line telecom. The service will be available starting from 1Q 2007.

When you’re near your home, people can reach you calling your fixed line number, that will be now linked to your mobile. So they will just pay for a local call. Monthly fee is 9.99€ for telephony only and 40 € for telephony and data (UMTS), completely mobile.

It will be possible to share the fixed line number with another mobile phone as well, so you can have two mobile phone with the same fixed line number. Of course, your phone will maintain its mobile phone number also.

What to say ? It’s another big move towards the fixed-mobile convergence by a big name of the market… It would be great if users could have an easy to use interface for an advanced management of the routes, forwarding etc., like the Iotum’s Relevant Engine.

    inphonex offering LNP ??

today i emailed inphonex customer svc and they told me they will start to port numbers in within a week or two.

Has anyone else heard this? If this is true i will no longer be using them as my backup, they will be my main provider. This will also help me with all the Vonage people that ask where they should move to.
