N73: sync your address book with Apple MacBook

The first thing I usually do when I start using a new handset is to import my address book. I have over 1500 contacts, stored on the web through Plaxo. This way I can always have the same updated address book in every computer I use.With the other Nokia phones I have, everything is pretty easy with my Mac: you just have to connect the phone to the MacBook through bluethooth, then use iSync to synchronize both address book and calendars (with iCal). With the 6280 it’s a seamless procedure, instead with the 6680 you have to install a little package into the handset and run it while synchronizing.Then, I thought, with the N73 everything should be as easy as the other Nokia phones: I launched iSync and tried to pair new devices. Bad surprise: the N73 has been recognized, but it seems it’s not supported by iSync.After a few shots with Google, here is the solution (it seems it works with N73 and N9x):

In the Finder, control-click on the iSync application and choose ShowPackage Contents. Then navigate into Contents -> Plugins ->ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice -> Contents -> Plugins ->PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin -> Contents -> Resources. In thatfolder, modify MetaClasses.plist (make a backup first!) using the belowcode.Here’s what you need to add to the file:

<key>com.nokia.N73</key> <dict> <key>Identification</key> <dict> <key>com.apple.cgmi+cgmm</key> <array> <string>Nokia+Nokia N73</string> <string>Nokia+Nokia N73-1</string> </array> <key>com.apple.gmi+gmm</key> <array> <string>Nokia+Nokia N73</string> <string>Nokia+Nokia N73-1</string> </array> </dict> <key>InheritsFrom</key> <array> <string>family.com.nokia.serie60v2.3</string> </array> <key>Services</key> <array> <dict> <key>ServiceName</key> <string>com.apple.model</string> <key>ServiceProperties</key> <dict> <key>ModelIcon</key> <string>NOKN73.tiff</string> <key>ModelName</key> <string>N73</string> </dict> </dict> </array>

  </dict>

The image is not properly the right one, but everything is working well and in a few minutes I had my address book downloaded into my N73. Cool!Technorati Tags: , , , , , ,

    still figuring out how to make/update/place ? the masterclasses file. I'm new with I sync and a little lost. What do you meen by simply using textedit? paste the code into a rtf file and then paste the file in the folder you mention?

    You are an absolute star. I'm totally new to the Mac and have been struggling for a couple of hours to get my contacts across. When I found the N73 wasn't supported I almost gave up. Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

    Hi, Have done that...Thanks.
    Now i cannot seem to find my N73 on isync. I did earlier but now , its no there. I have it paired and connected through bluetooth. Any ideas?? I'm new to i sync..and dread the thought of sending my address book details individually..
