Voice SMS are great

Today I finally had the opportunity to meet Brough Turner, CTO at NMS Communications.

We have chatted about new value added services for mobile operators, first of all Voice SMS. I’ve written about this service before. I find it simply fantastic and Brough explained to me that it is really easy to implement and any mobile phone can use it.

I don’t know why only a few operators are really adopting it. Brough told me that there are customers in other countries that are willing to pay for services that in italy and in other parts of Europe are not. For instance, services like ringback tones are really popular in India (30-35% of adoption) while in Italy around 5-10%.

I think it could be a matter of culture but I do believe there is still enough space to experiment a couple of new services. There could be a lot of surprises… In the meantime, thanks Brough for the chatting.
