Two new mobile VoIP players caught my attention during the past weeks: Mobivox and WifiMobile.
This service has not officially been launched yet, but anyone can apply for a beta phase by inserting their data in their website. Their PR, Jennifer Fader, contacted me a few times in order to be involved in their beta trial and to chat with their CEO, Stéphane Marceau, former VP at Bell Canada.
Unfortunately, due to lack of time these weeks, I’ve still not registered to the beta, but I promise I’ll do within the following days.
According to their website:
MOBIVOX simply brings the Best of VoIP to every mobile user. It requires no download, no PC on, no installation, connection fees or contracts. MOBIVOX customers can now do much more with their existing mobile phone and enjoy:
· Skype (including Free and unlimited Skype calls)
· Cheap long distance calls to anywhere
· Cool mobile services (Free for a limited time) including:
Dynamic and instant conferencing
Mobile-to-home seamless hand-offs
· Powerful voice control interface (Free)
· Unified hosted contact book (Free)
I’ll get back with more details as soon as I’ll be able to try it out.
WifiMobile

I’ve just signed up and received an SMS with a link from which I can get their software (named OneFone). I got an error while installing it, so I’ll try it again later.
It works with all the N-series and E-series Nokia phones. They claim it works under both 3G and Wifi coverage, so it presumably doesn’t use the native SIP stack of the Nokia phones, also because as reported in this blog, on N93 and N73 the SIP modules are not complete. Moreover, I dont’ understand if is capable of working with other IM networks, a must-have for services like those.
In conclusion, those players join the crowded mobile VoIP family, with Talkster, Fring, Nimbuzz and others that are trying to find the best way to approach the market.
Fring still remains my favorite, even if there are important news coming from Talkster and really cool news coming from less known but, to me, really promising players like Barablu.
