Making internet users pay for a service has always been one of the biggest issues during the internet era. Credit cards, Paypal and others are the solution, but sometimes are not enough. How to keep the payment process easy ?

OneBip let you make small payments (less than 10 dollars) through your mobile phone. This service is now available is UK, US and Germany but should be available in other european countries pretty soon.

Unlike other similar services that basically use your mobile phone just as an authentication method, OneBip lets you pay charging your phone bill, much easier and secure, wether it is prepaid or not.

Here is how it works:

1. Register your mobile phone

With OneBip you can pay online with your mobile phone without using a credit card or bank account. Registering your OneBip account is fast and easy! To ensure the security of your account, the OneBip password will be sent directly to your phone in a free text message.

2. Shop online

With OneBip you will be able to shop online and pay with your mobile phone.
OneBip works both for contract and prepaid mobile phones.
To authorize payments, insert your mobile number and password, click on the “BUY” button. No hard codes to text or phone numbers to call. You will receive a notification on your phone and be automatically redirected to the merchant’s site.

As simple as a click!
3. Control your spending

OneBip will send you a text message for each purchase you will make: you will always know where, when and how much you spent with your OneBip account!
Using your mobile number and OneBip password, you can login to your account to check your balance, review your payments and manage your subscriptions.

Of course you can use this system only with affiliated merchants, like Paypal do. If a service like this becomes successful, it would be a revolution for e-commerce and can become the easiest way to make micro-payments over the internet. It’s would be a bargain for merchants, that would have an easy way to make young users pay (something that mobile operators know very well).

Speaking about my country, Italy, I know there are some limitations. I know for sure that mobile operators are not willing to let users make payments through their mobile credit because they want this credit to be used only for services offered by them, hence only an appropriate law could solve this.

Anyway, founders should know this since this company is… italian! Diego Mortillaro, president of OneBip, is a person that I should have met before, since his name is not new to me…
