Free Calls Time: Jajah

by Luca Filigheddu on June 19, 2007

Here is the first episode of the pre-announced Free Calls Time. Today I will focus on Jajah in order to explain how to make free calls from that service.

Head
Firstly, you need to setup a new Jajah account. After that, it’s important to be aware that free calls are only allowed to people that are registered to Jajah as well. I know you should be wondering: “what if I need to call my old uncle or my parents who live abroad and that are not used to play with computers?”. The answer is pretty easy, you just need to setup a new account for them (ask them first…).

All this said, the next step is to make sure that people you are going to call frequently have a Jajah account and, if not, you need to signup new accounts for them.

Before starting making free calls, please take a careful look at the countries that are allowed to be called for FREE. That means that also your country must be included in the list, since Jajah uses a call-back system to place calls, that is it calls your own phone number and put in touch with the number you want to call automatically.

Here is the list of countries currently included in the Free Global Calling Zone:

Landline & mobile phone
USA (excl. Alaska & Hawaii), Canada, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand

Landline only
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium,Brazil,Chile,Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia,Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico city, Monaco,Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, San Marino, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK, Venezuela

That means that, example, you can place calls from your mobile phone in Canada to your parents’ landline number in Israel completely for free.

NOTE: be careful, free calls are available only if you start those from the Jajah web site (www.jajah.com) on your computer. Sites mobile.jajah.com and play.jajah.com are NOT enabled to place free calls.

  • lets think - I want to make a call, I go into my home office 2. I turn on my computer 3. wait 3 minutes until it boots up 4. open my browser
    5. go to Jajah web site 6. log in 7. type in the numbers I want to call.
    8. just before I press on the screen, a call comes into my phone, so I have to wait 9. I finish the other call and press on jajah to make a call
    10. The phones are ringing! But alas…I reach my brothers voicemail :-)

    Now with a 1buttontowifi solution http://flatplanetphone.com/wordpress/?p=234,

    1. I pick up the phone
    2. press on 9 to get a dial tone
    3. dial my call
    done

The only disadvantage of the 1buttontowifi solution is their prices, but there nothing to stop me from supplying the same solution at a much better price!

    Moshe,
I totally agree with you. Mobile phones are the most effective ways to place phone calls. If Jajah could bring their services to those phones through an IVR-based system, it would be great. The problem is that no advertising there...
