Interesting news from the blogosphere

Posted on 10 June 2007

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Here are three news I’ve found in my RSS reader and that I think are worth a read.

Numbr
Phoneboy has finally found out who’s there behind Craigsnumber, now Numbr. I had written about that service in the past, saying that I couldn’t trust a service (even if useful) unless I could find who is behind it. Now Demaon has the solution. I’ll take Numbr another close look pretty soon, but I’ve immediately found a great affinity with GrandCentral. Given the huge numbers behind Craisgslist, Numbr is really a promising service.

Skype Telecom Ltd
Skype is becoming more and more a Telecom operator, with similar offerings and similar strategy. That’s what pal Andy Abramson is going on stating in his blog, while analyzing the latest offerings Skype just launched. I can’t agree more. And many others are more and moving to alternative standard solutions.

Twitterbubblebooooooom
When I see people who have been great fans and users of twitter moving on and giving up, I think that something important is happening and we need to keep an eye on that new kind of services. The book “Fast second” offers an interesting perspective on what happened in similar cases (the first opens the market, but the second wins it).

Let’s experiment (beta)
Andy points out some interesting articles by Martin Geddes. Martin is basically highlighting what is not working in popular VoIP services like Jajah and Skype. Andy is right when he says that we are in a period during which companies are experimenting, it’s difficult to find a service that REALLY WORKS out there. Alfa here, beta there, but never “Stable Working Version 1.0“. Many years ago we used to refer to the overall quality associated to a VoIP service as “best effort”. Has something changed?
