Mailplane is something I have been always looking for.

It is basically a mail client which uses the traditional Gmail interface to manage emails. Mail.app is a great application, but Gmail standard interface is something I’m missing.
They are in beta testing, so you can apply and they will send you an account as soon as it becomes available (they are sending out 100 accounts/day).
According to their website, with Mailplane you can do everything you do with Gmail and much more, taking full advantage of a standalone application and of a deeper integration with MacOSX.
Mailplane is not freeware. It can be tested out for three weeks, than you have to pay. Price has not been determined yet, but I imagine it would be in the 10-20$ range. I wouldn’t pay more.
I look forward to trying it out as soon as possible. More infos and screenshots on their website. Hat tip to the italian Melablog website for having tried it out.
