Pat Phelan noticed that AT&T is going to offer new prepaid plans for cellphones.

In Italy prepaid has been the key of success of the mobile market. You buy the phone at a low price, than you pay as you go. If you don’t make calls, you don’t pay. If you make calls you pay as you go and you have always a complete control of your budget.

Just to be clear, when I say “prepaid” plan I mean that you have a “rechargeable” SIM Card that you can usually fill with 3,5,10,20,50,100 and 250 euros that you can spend in messaging, calls and so on. You can recharge your SIM through most online banks, from any ATM, from any authorized shop. It’s a common behavior in Italy.

Is in US the first case of prepaid offering for mobile phones? If so, hey guys, you are just discovering the wheel!
