Feedburner Self Adv: a failure for me

Posted on 11 August 2007

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Last week Feedburner introduced an interesting new feature, that is the ability to publicize your blog/website on their advertising network.

In a nutshell, with a few of clicks you can insert your “headline animator” into the Feedburner advertising network. Minimum bid $25.

When I reported this news on this blog last week, I said I was really tempted to give it a try and see what happened. I did, but the results have been far from being successful.

I got a total of roughly 3500 impressions, with a “huge” amount of clicks: ZERO. Impressions are almost useless for me, this experiment was aimed to grow the subscribers list of this blog.

Was it a problem of the look&feel of my banner? Was it a problem of the amount invested (I paid $25 for one week)? Was the period too short?

In general, I must admit that the general CTR of all the Feeburner adv network campaigns are very low, roughly 0,2%. But other advertisers invest to increase their brand awareness also, it’s not just a matter of clicks. That’s also the reason why Feedburner, unlike other networks like Google AdSense, pay publishers not only depending on the actual CTR.

All this said, I won’t try it again in the future. On the other hand, mostly for curiosity purposes, I’m tempted to spend the same amount of money in other adv networks and see what happens.

I’ll keep you posted. For the time being, my experience leads me to say thumb down on the Feedburner’s adv for bloggers.
