Microsoft announced that the new upcoming version of Microsoft Office for Mac is delayed to January 2008 due to “product quality” issues.
“We had hoped to hit the Christmas selling season, but now we hope to target Macworld (in January),” said Craig Eisler, who became general manager of the Mac business unit at Microsoft six weeks ago. “We as a group were not satisfied with product quality.”
I think it’s a good opportunity for Apple, since they are going to release the new version of iWorks, expected together with the launch of Leopard in October.
If most compatibility issues will be solved in iWork, I believe it could be a valid alternative to Office. Keynote is far better than Powerpoint, but Pages still lacks in many areas. Compatibility, again, is the main issue.
