The Nightmare: Google

by Luca Filigheddu on September 20, 2007

The Nightmare: Google

Here at the EADP conference where I am now, the big G is one of the main concerns of players in the Yellow Pages sector.

Maps and GIS providers are worried about Google, because it offers for free what they offer for money. Yellow Pages themselves are worried as well, because Google catches their customers that can easily find through Google what in the past (not that far…) they usually found on the Yellow Pages. And I could go on with other products and other vendors, everyone is worried about Google…

I think that Yellow Pages should change something in their business model. What about reviews? What about rankings? Last night we were looking for an Indian restaurant in Paris, we had a small Yellow Pages book of Paris and found something there. What to choose? What has the best reviews from users?

User-generated information like reviews and rankings really make the difference in this space, and that’s something I can’t find on Yellow Pages yet.

Guys, think about it.
