Business networking: Facebook or LinkedIn ?

Today, while trying to get in touch with a couple of business contacts, I found myself playing hard with LinkedIn and Facebook.

My task was very easy: trying to get in touch with those people through my network of friends and business contacts in both social networks.

My conclusion? When it comes to connect with people you don’t know directly but who belong to your “network”, LinkedIn is definitely the winner of this contest. Facebook is good if you are so lucky to find the person you’re looking for so that you can send them a personal message in order to connect.

The problem is that it’s not that easy to find a person on Facebook (yet) and, if he’s there, you have to filter his contact from all the students and other people that are not strictly business contacts. And, in some circumstances, it can be painful…

That said, I highly recommend LinkedIn for business purposes. Facebook is a powerful platform, a great way to interact with your friends and I love it and I’m using it intensely, but not well designed to find new people that you don’t know yet.

Here is some opinions by other bloggers:

All that it will take for Facebook to overtake Linkedin in the business networking world is the right Facebook application. We think that application is Kuhnektid.
