1€ = $1,424
That’s good & evil.
A few pros:
1) When I’m in the US, I can buy an iPod for $249, that is € 174, against € 249 from Apple Stores in Italy. And much more, but the iPod is easily storable in my luggage… ![]()
2) In the US, I can go to a restaurant without hassling for the bill… (not always, but in general you can presume you’ll save about 30%)
3) I love looking at the currency conversion on my credit card statement when I’m back to Italy…
A few cons:
1) My American friends start sweating when it comes to pay for a dinner in Italy
2) My blog’s Google AdSense earnings are going down and down and down if I use that (not much) money to pay for a pizza in Italy… (Google AdSense only pays in $)
An American today spends a lot of money for a vacation in Europe. If he chooses Paris, which I consider one of the most expensive cities in Europe, it’s going to be really painful…
What are your thoughts as an American coming to Europe ?

1) After paying the duty (15%) and VAT (20%) the price is the same … (unless you plan to smuggle in your goods …. which is unethical)
2) Generally speaking to eat in the US is usually a lot cheaper then in Europe.
3) That’s good on your point of view, but for an European company is now very hard to be competitive with an US company (selling products or services..), sure is good for your personal finances…
Holiday in Europe ? If you are wealthy…u don’t care…. otherwise you head somewhere else… and there are lots of nice places around the world …..
Europe is just loosing the battle with they ridiculous over priced currency…
It’s painful! I’m currently in England and my bank statement is bleeding. Everything costs what I would expect it to cost in dollars but then when I look at my credit card statement or my account, it has cost me twice. A Starbucks coffee is around £3 but it actually costs me over $6! The dollar is absolutely pitiful right now. It is embarrassing as an American.
I just have to pretend a £ is a £ is a £ and forget that it is actually $2 or I’ll just worry and be a cheapskate the whole trip.
Natali, it we talk about £, it’s even worse!
