Tiscali and Nokia announced a partnership in order to experiment a new FMC service called “Tiscali HomeZone“.
In a nutshell, if you have a Nokia E-series mobile phone (it seems that only three phones are enabled, the E61, E61i and E65) and you are a Tiscali customer (ADSL and Voice), you can participate to the restricted beta of HomeZone. Your phone can be provided with a landline italian phone number so that if you are at home and have an access point, calls directed to that number will be redirected to your mobile phone through Wifi. Even if nor reported, I presume that if you are at home you can even make calls through Wifi and your phone.
If you’re not at home, you can use your usual mobile operator to make and receive calls.
The service is pretty simple, something that I define an “academic” application of the fixed-mobile-convergence principles. Nothing really special, to be honest (even if a step ahead). And I don’t understand why only E-series and not N-series also, like my N95.
I look forward to further developments, even because the latest news on Tiscali make me wonder why this choice now.
