Seesmic and Hictu

The launch of Seesmic, the new “video twitter” service by Loic Le Meur, led to a series of blog posts that are surely worth a read. Here is the story, step by step.

1) I left my comment to this post by Robert Scoble on Seesmic, pointing out that the expression “video twitter” can actually refer to my company micro video blogging service Hictu.

2) Mike Arrington at TechCrunch reviewed Seesmic as well, hence I left my comment on TechCrunch’s post, wondering why most tech blogs and tech magazines reviewed Hictu except from TechCrunch. On the other hand TechCrunch immediately reviewed this new service by Loic Le Meur.

3) Robert pointed out a few reasons why Seesmic got more attention than Hictu by TechCrunch. He made a lot of good points, even if he missed the most important reasons: Loic Le Meur is a well known entrepreneur in the web 2.0 space, he is the organizer of a popular Web 2.0 conference (LaWeb 3) and Seesmic received 6M euros by Skype’s initial investors. All good points, in my opinion the most important ones.

4) Giacomo Vacca, Hictu’s Product Manager, replied today with his thoughts. He asks Robert Scoble:

Robert, did you try Hictu? Did you send me your suggestions through the “Hictu as you like it” section? Did you invite your friends? Did you ask me what we are going to provide in the future? Did you create and embed a videopost? Did you notice that Hictu in itself is a mashup of many different IM and VoIP services?

He basically says: why don’t you share your comments on Hictu by trying it out instead of judging it only by a quick overview? Others, like Mashable, gave us their thoughts, good and bad, critics and praises. We also received tons of comments by users, bloggers and Web 2.0 experts who shared their views and helped us to improve our service. So, what was missed here? Do fact matters or not ?

The funniest part of this story? Giacomo changed the tag line of his blog today:

I’m Not A Californian Blogger, So Read It At Your Own Risk

My final thoughts ? Users rule.

What do you think? Do facts matter? Does living in San Francisco matter? ;-)

Luca: i signal Hictu to Robert Scoble some months ago in the comments of Scobleizer and via Twitter too. I’m happy that he finally visits the website and talking about Hictu on Scobleizer.

Luca, Thank you for pointing out the matter. Web 2.0 it’s definitely not only US centric.
Read my post if you like.
