After two years from the acquisition of Skype for a lot of money, today eBay announced the introduction of a great innovation: sellers can insert a SkypeMe button inside their auctions, whatever the category of the item being sold is.
Wow! Amazing! After two years, they finally realized that it could have been a good move to show that Skype can be something useful for all their sellers. Is it all eBay can do with Skype?
Andy Abramson has some tips to get more from Skype and give sellers the ability to use any click to call, not only SkypeMe. In addition, Moshe asks what eBay’s Skype strategy is.
To be honest, I’m concerned: does eBay have a real Skype strategy?!? After two years I have many doubts about it. They haven’t been able to show a clear plan to leverage Skype and their users, together with the great technology behind it and all the great products developed through the Skype’s API.
It would be a sign of maturity if eBay executives told the world the truth, which is that this acquisition has been a complete failure.
This latest announcement can only make me (and many others) laugh. This should have been done two days after Skype’s acquisition, not now. Now, I expected much, much more.
