Today Jajah launches Jajah Direct, a new feature of their service which lets you use Jajah without the need of a PC.
In a nutshell, they offer you a local number to call your contacts so that you just need to dial it on your phone to get connected. No PC, no headsets, nothing.
Rebtel, Talkplus and many others have been offering something similar but Jajah’s service is much easier since you don’t need a different phone number for each of your contacts, but you only need to remember a local number, similar to what Mobivox does. Here is some bullet points from their press release:

To be honest, there is a part of the claims in the Jajah Direct website that confuses me. I’ve tried the service by dialing a local Italian number and everything has worked well. At the same time, I found this on their website:
After your call you will receive a unique local number for your contact
Does it mean that it can works like Rebtel as well? It’s not that clear to me. What about explaining it better?
The cost of the call can be free, aside from the cost of the local call, if both people are Jajah users and belong to one of the Jajah Free Global Calling Zone.
One thing that I didn’t like is that after the test call they offer to you, they don’t ask your Jajah userid and password but your credit card number. It seems it’s not a problem of caller ID since I used a phone number registered to jajah. In my opinion that’s not that friendly… I would appreciate more explanation on their website on how the service works and what I have to expect in terms of user experience.

There’s been a lot of hype about Jajah lately (see what I mean here: http://blogs.pcworld.com/phoneconnection/archives/005944.html). A lot of what the company is offering is great, including some of the features of Jajah Direct. But it’s not all as perfect as the press releases make it sound. Thanks for pointing out a few of the issues so we can see a more realistic view of what using Jajah is like. Not bad, just not perfect.
