Today Jajah is launching opt-in in-call advertising.
It’s a non-intrusive approach: they overlay a message above the ring tone before the call starts. It’s “opt-in” because if users choose to see/hear targeted adv messages their account will be filled with credit. So they can save money or even earn money during their calls.
Jajah’s co-founder Roman Scharf explicitly refers to their new model as “AdWords for the phone“. It’s a good move, since everyone in this space well know that AdWords is a successful model and has meant success and money for Google.
Jajah’s CEO also said that a second step will be the ability to offer an appliance that operators can install in order to get targeted advertising for their users.
Jajah also signed a partnership with Oridian, the largest privately-owned advertising network, in order to boost the startup of this service.
The move is right and at the right time. Back in 2000 my company launched Chocophone, an advertising-based internet telephony service. Banner and Video Ads were targeted depending on the user’s profile and, like Jajah, ads were shown at the beginning of the call, in order not to disturb users.
That’s the reason why I like this move, even if my company was innovating too early (Google AdWords didn’t exist yet).
