Ecto 3 Beta: what I don’t like

by Luca Filigheddu on January 2, 2008

[excerpt]I’m back to version 2 of Ecto, the Mac blog editor. Again. A couple of months ago I posted what I didn’t like about Ecto3 Alpha. Some of my suggestions became features, but there still a LOT of work to be done.

Here is my list for Ecto 3 beta:[/excerpt]

1) It was #3 in my previous list: I can’t find how to customize the template for tags. In version 2 I could customize it and I could add the Technorati icon near the tags. I’m not able to to this now with version 3.

2) Keyboard shortcuts are not working in the proper way: when using tags, I want to easily browse them while typing and if I can’t find a tag, it has to be added as soon as I type, without the need of pushing the “+” icon with the mouse. At the same time, when the tag is found, I have to click on it with the mouse in order to check it. In version 2, pressing the space bar gave the right result. Why not in version 3? It’s a time saver.

3) When inserting a link, as soon as I’m writing the link there are some issues with the autocomplete. In version 2 it was handled much better.
Better than the alpha version, but a few small improvements would make it almost perfect. Until then, I go back to version 2.
