[excerpt]Garret Smith wrote an interesting post on productivity and on the opportunity for browsers to come with integrated voice capabilities.

Nowadays, browsers are where people are. People use browsers intensely and it’s maybe the most used application by internet-connected people. So why not improve productivity by integrating useful and powerful tools inside the browser itself, like voice applications?[/excerpt]

Since I am a heavy internet user and I always have a browser open (and by always I mean 18 - 20 hours a day), most of what I see during the day is my lovely Firefox browser. I found many great productivity enhancing plug-in’s for Firefox, yet I am wondering why Firefox (or any other browser for that matter) does not natively come with voice capabilities.

It’s a philosophy that we applied when my company released the first version of our popular Firefox/Flock VoIP extension. It really improves your productivity and now that you can completely customize it by using your favorite VoIP provider / Enteprise VoIP server, it lets you speed your daily communications activities.

In conclusion, I praise browsers like Flock that are focusing on offering an integrated user experience with popular web services and applications, and I look forward to seeing more browsers embracing the integration of productivity-enhancement add-ons like Voice and messaging as a main strategy for the future.
