I Just Moved from Flickr to SmugMug

[excerpt]I’m getting more and more fascinated by the world of photography. Any place I visit means hundred of photos taken and I’m now used to dedicate some of my spare time to review the photos, tag them, archive and so on, thanks to the power of Adobe Lightroom.[/excerpt]

I was using Flickr to share and publish some of my photos online, no doubt one of the most obvious choices. However, during the past weeks SmugMug came under my radar. Definitely a very well done website and I realized it’s being used by lots of well known photographers who host and share (and hopefully sell) their works.

Last but not least, SmugMug was one of the nominee at The Crunchies and was the winner in the category “Best design“. That said, I had the opportunity to meet with the nice SmugMug’s CEO&Chief Geek Don MacAskill.

I just had one question for him: why SmugMug instead of Flickr? His answer was immediate: if you are looking for the best photo sharing service, then keep Flickr. But if you want your photos to look much better, use SmugMug.

So, I just tried it out and… moved!. Why? Because Don was WRONG. Now that I moved my collections to SmugMug, my photos are being viewed by around 20x more people than on Flickr, which problem is that is now over-crowded. And SmugMug knows this:

In conclusion: my photos look better and get more attention. Bye bye Flickr. I still have the Flickr bar on top of my blog’s homepage, but I’m figuring out how to convert it into a SmugMug one… just found a solution, will be up soon.

In the meantime, take a look at the latest entries of my photoblog:
