Twitter and productivity

I received an email today from my friend Pat Phelan, pointing out this discussion on how much Twitter costs in terms of productivity. In a nutshell, how much companies are spending, indirectly and directly, because people use twitter?

The total cost, after making some assumptions that make sense, is around 30M hours / day, which approximately leads to $13.5 Billions for 2008. WOW!

On the contrary, some people are using Twitter as a powerful business tool and are taking the most out of it. But I don’t think that these “some” people are too many. As other social networks, usually 90% of usage is due to 2% of users. I know people that post on Twitter but don’t care of what other are saying (or they do for a few), as well as people who only read what others post but that don’t post that much.

What Twitter user are you? This is my Twitter feed, if you want to follow me, just do it. I usually post from Hictu, where I can also post videos and audio messages and can import my friends as well as sending them private messages on Twitter.

Let’s get rid of Twitter and Facebook!…

I like Pat very much. But I don’t need a status update every time his airplain is delayed, he buys a CD of Take That or answers a friend’s question. That’s the kind of information I find in Twitter feeds. For me that’s not useful and causes a false…
