Verizon and the Italian Market

Verizon and the Italian Market

Andy Abramson is taking a deserved break before the upcoming March full of events and hard work.

Anyway, well hidden from his wife, took the time to post his thoughts on the newly announced “all-included” plans from Verizon Wireless in the US.

Is it a clear sign of a new wave of competition in the mobile market? Pat and Alec share their thoughts too.

What is certain is that this approach won’t work in Italy. Aside from a niche (not representative), italian market is made of prepaid SIM cards, is driven by the freedom of buying unlocked phones and having three or four SIM cards in our pockets, where a teenager is able of sending over 200 SMS a day. Forget plans like those , in particular if it means a minimum of 99 euros out of your pocket every month.

  • All the major carriers now offer this plan--announced within hours of each other. T-Mobile's $99 offer includes unlimited SMS as well.

One has to wonder how coordinated this effort truly was. Sprint was toying with their unlimited plan publicly first, the Verizon stuff was rumored, then everyone announces on the same day.

The market will be fun to watch, that's for sure.
