RIM developing software for the Apple iPhone

RIM, the company behind the popular BlackBerry, seems to be in the process to build a brand new team to develop software for the Apple iPhone.

Right now this should be just a rumor, but trusted sources says that a confidential job listing is circulating internally. The most obvious guess is that they are going to develop a new push email client for the iPhone that can be integrated with BlackBerry’s platform.

“As part of a newly-created team, you’ll influence the development and design of BlackBerry software,” the listing reads. “This is a very confidential brand new team and a senior position within RIM so I can’t provide too many details. I guess you can figure out what it might be about though.”

I believe this is a very smart move by RIM. I experienced an amazing user experience on the iPhone in terms of email usage and this could be the right way to embrace users who bought the iPhone but are BlackBerry owners as well.

I’m wondering if a discussion related to a specific agreement between RIM and Apple is going on behind the scenes.
