It seems that Google is pushing the concept of TV channels accessible everywhere from low-power devices more and more.
The key of the discussion is all about the availability of white-space airwaves for Google and other members of a coalition that “has been lobbying the FCC to allow unlicensed use of white-space spectrum”.
One of the main problems that will be faced as soon as more broadcasters will switch to digital (so that more spectrum will be available) is interference with the TV signal. FCC tested many devices with poor results so far.
“I am totally confident that if we have rules that say you can use the spectrum under conditions that you cause no interference, that those devices will get produced. And, in fact, hundreds of millions of dollars will be invested in making those devices non-interfering,” Page said.
Mobile TV is something many mobile operators have been pushing worldwide in the last two-three years but unfortunately with poor results. One of the main issues is the lack of on-demand services (in Italy at least), something that oblige users to get access to the content that is being transmitted in that specific moment only.
