Due to lack of time in the past months, I missed to point out that SightSpeed, the popular video conferencing service, is heavily approaching the social network space. So, one strategy and two distinct markets: consumer for SightSpeed Light and SightSpeed Personal and high quality easy to use video conferencing for SMBs for SightSpeed Business (btw, they just added a very cool 9-way multi-party video conferencing as well…).
Firstly, in April, they launched their web-based widget SightSpeet light for MySpace users, the #1 social network owned by News Corp. After this first important move and two months later only, I learnt that they are now launching SightSpeed light for hi5, the huge San Francisco based social network much popular in Asia and one of the largest social networks worldwide.
When hi5 members add SightSpeed Light to their profiles, they can notify all their friends. Once their friends have added SightSpeed Light (by clicking “Add this App” from their hi5 profile), they can immediately see when their friends are online to call, video mail or post.
In my opinion, this is a wise move by my friend Peter Csathy & Co, since that kind of users, much more than Facebook’s ones, are willing to embrace video as one of the main means of communication. No download, no setup, no cost, the ideal premises for video conversation within an environment where communication and socialization are the keys.
