Welcome to The “World Live Web”

One upon a time there was the web. Static, cold, let’s say black and white.

The a new technology arrived: RSS. Content comes to your feed reader as soon as it is published by the correspondent sources. News can be now consumed in a totally different and more effective way.

Was it enough? Well, that’s old, already. Now there is the Live Web, where you can get what you want when you want, filtering and focusing on what you want to read, getting content from multiple sources in realtime and quickly interacting with others sharing news from this or that website/blog.

I’m talking about the world of Twitter and FriendFeed.  With the ability to filter specific content and thanks to wonderful desktop clients like Tweetdeck, you can have a comprehensive view of what’s happening around you about specific subjects.

For instance, I use to monitor the following strings: “voip“, “voice 2.0“, “blackberry bold“, “macosx“, “customer engagement” and many many others, including some products and services of my company.  This lets me quickly engage people who are discussing the same subjects I care of, reply to questions I’m expert on, giving/getting recommendations, learning.

Today, I caught a tweet stating a plane crashed in NYC. I immediately put “crash” on Tweetdeck which, thanks to Twitter Search, immediately showed all the tweets referring to the plane crash in the Hudson River in Manhattan.

Easy right? That’s a completely new and fascinating experience and, in my opinion, not comparable to anything else in the story of the WWW, now becoming more and more WLW, World Live Web.

If you want to be part of this new revolution, make sure you join Twitter (follow me here) and take part of its world. Friendfeed is another great way to be part of it, even if, honestly, I find it too noisy and I usually miss something (Scoble would rather say I’m wrong on this, though).
