As many of my faithful readers or Twitter followers should know, I got a Blackberry Bold last December. I made no secret that it quickly became my favorite mobile phone ever and that, to date, I never tried a phone which provided me with a wonderful user experience like the Bold does.
All that said, one of the issues reported by many users is about battery life. If you keep 3G, Wifi and Bluetooth on, you need to have a power recharger with you in order to make sure you don’t quickly find yourself offline.
Now I just wanted to share with my readers that I completely solved all the issues related to battery life. Don’t get me wrong, my issues were not comparable to those I read about the iPhone 3G, but I was sure it could get better.
How did I achieve this?
1) Updated my OS to .216
There are newer version out, but this one is working very well and I still haven’t found a reason to upgrade again.
2) Installed only the apps I really use
Aside from the standard BB apps, I installed:
- Socialscope, a must-have twitter/facebook client
- Google Apps
Socialscope and FB are always on on my BB plus I continuously receive/send emails and make/receive an average of 25-30 calls per day. This number is higher while on the go and not at my desk, of course, but it’s a good number to test your battery life.
The result? I usually turn on my BB at 7am and turn it off at 12am. This means an average of 17 hours. How is my battery indicator? Well, these days it still shows 3 bars out of the 5 available.
The cool thing is that I don’t really know how I achieved this, since after the installation of the new firmware and restoring the content I previously had, I still had problems. Then I wiped the device and re-installed only the apps I’m really making use of. The result? Boom, unbelievable battery life.
