An Alternative, Powerful, Twitter Client

An Alternative, Powerful, Twitter Client

The best way to leverage the power of Twitter is using a standalone client which brings to you many features not available in the web Twitter interface.

There are tons of applications for MacOSX, all full of pros and cons. The most popular ones are Twitterrific, Twhirl, Tweetdeck and Alert Thingy. Aside for Twitterrific, all these apps are developed with Air, hence OS independent.

I tried them all, of course, and my faithful readers know that I blogged about each of them highlighting what I liked and disliked. My latest post in this area was about Alert Thingy, an app I definitely love.

All that being said, I just wanted to share with you that I’m now using another native MacOSX app which is becoming more and more sticky for me. I already blogged about it a couple of weeks ago saying it’s a great app and at that time others agreed with me.

The app I’m talking about is EventBox. I don’t want to repeat what I already wrote in my previous post, but just want to focus on the integrated Twitter client.

You can do lots of things with it: browsing your timeline, monitoring replies and retweets, easily shortening URLS and posting to Twitpic, creating search keywords and monitoring them (you are continuously notified about new occurrences), viewing twitter profiles/timelines, using Twitter to share content (RSS or Google Reader) and much more. You also have a HUD which makes it very similar to Twitterrific (despite I prefer the main window over the HUD).

Here is some more screenshots. The icons of the available options for each post, the sidebar with some search keywords, the HUD (showing, in this example, replies and retweets).

Being a native MacOSX client, it’s much lighter than other AIR based apps, too.

For all this very good reasons I have to recommend it to you again. Whether you want a polyhedric app or just a Twitter client, it’s definitely worth a try. You can also ask the company behind it to participate to the beta testing, something I recommend given that  you can immediately try the new useful features they are releasing.
