Top 5 Features Regular Email Clients Don’t Have (but Postbox does)

A couple of weeks ago I wrote the definitive list of email clients for MacOSX, the OS I use regularly at work and at home. I’m a power email user (like many of my readers, I guess) so I’m always looking for the best performance and usability, something which can make the difference in your daily activity handling tons of emails.

Postbox is the new multi-OS email client based on the Mozilla engine. It’s a very young client but given that the developers are actively working on it and releasing new versions very often, it’s definitely a client everyone should keep an eye on.

In the past days I was using it connected to my IMAP Gmail account and I can say that the more I use it, the more it becomes sticky to me. The reason for that is given by a set of unique features you cannot find in any other client out there (and listed in my previous post).

1) Content Sharing

When you write a new email, the latest content contained in any other email you wrote/received is always at your fingertips and you can easily add it to your new outgoing emails.

2) Upload To Google Docs

screen-capture-682Thanks to a contextual menu, you can easily upload any document to Google Docs. Very useful for document sharing or if you use Google Docs as your primary repository for your documents.

3) Status Update

You can easily update your status on Facebook, Twitter and Friendfeed from within your email client. Very effective and useful in many cases.

4) GMail-like threaded view

You can see your threads as you do on Gmail, with the ability to expand just the messages you are interested in and easily keeping track of the ongoing thread.

5) Search Results / Maps Sharing

Postbox lets you easily drag and drop search results from various sources directly to your email content. You can also search for places/directions and paste them into your email, both from Google Maps and Yelp.

I highly recommend to try it out and tell me what you think. I haven’t tried it under Windows but I can assure you that on my Mac it is becoming a very good alternative to Mail.app.

On this subject, just a couple of weeks ago when I wrote my post on MacOSX email clients I was complaining about the lack of Quickview integration, in order to easily preview email attachments.

You know what? They just released this feature in the next version and it’s now available for everyone. That’s the reason why I recommend to look at it closely and to actively participate to their GetSatisfaction account in order to suggest new features to add.

That’s what I call customer engagement. Check Postbox out now.
