I‘m pretty sure this blog, LucaFiligheddu.com, has been attacked by hackers. All started two weeks ago, when I received the following email:

What? A new blog? The name on the sender field was “Ashwin’s Blog“. Again, WTF? I immediately checked my blog out and, as expected, it was down.
After some further analysis I discovered that some fields of my blog’s database have been overwritten with other unknown values. Luckily I have a developer background so I managed to sort everything out in about one hour. Anyway, yesterdey I kept getting errors from the database and, suddenly, I discovered that my blog completely dissappeared from Google! Yes, lots of stories that usually hit the first page (or even the first place) on Google completely disappeared.
What happened? It seems that the privacy option on my WP admin area was set to hide my blog to search engines. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that until yesterday. The result? From an average of 2000 pageviews/day to something like 100
Today it seems everything is getting back to normality but I’m still verifying what happened on my blog together with the MediaTemple’s guys (my hosting provider).
Any tip? Recommendations? Anyway, everything is getting back to how it used to be, but it’s not a great experience to see your 4 yrs old respectable blog to have been touched by other hands that are not yours
