The headline is courtesy by Jim Courtney, author of a great initiative that is helping him and his company to spread the word about a product that, otherwise, wouldn’t get the same attention.
I’m talking about the Yamaha SoundGadget Microphone speaker (PSG-01S). Pal Jim sent me and other bloggers / tech geeks this wonderful gadget for evaluation (as he did for the amazing FREETALK Everyman headset for Skype) and after having used it for a couple of conference calls on Skype (the last one today with common friend Dean Elwood) I can definitely say Jim scored a goal again: this device is AMAZING.
In a nutshell, you can make a Skype call as well as listen to good music with a little device that delivers a wonderful sound quality as well as a very powerful multi-directional microphone, ideal for attending a conference call effectively, alone or with other participants in the same room.
I was one of the first who tried this device on a Mac and it worked immediately, without any hassle. You can change the volume with the buttons on the side, but a Mac driver is not available yet so the hang-up / make-call buttons are not functional (work fine on Windows).
I don’t want to dig too much into technical details, important but actually useless for the “normal” person who wants to use it everyday. The only thing I want to point out is that anytime I show it to friends and colleagues, they are astonished and ask me where they can buy it (here). It is incredible how this device can create a snowball effect and become “viral” with lots of people talking about it as soon as someone shows how powerful it is.
Hats off to Jim Courtney for realizing how this “evangelization” campaign can bring to the attention of so many people a product that, otherwise, would likely have been buried among lots of other competing and “apparently” similar devices.
