HelloTXT introduces Hictu! Status Update

Tags: , , , ,

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

One of the most popular web-based cross posting services for microblogging and social networks, HelloTXT, is now available with the ability to post to my company’s video microblogging service Hictu!.

Video posting is not available yet… anyway stay tuned, more exciting news will follow very soon:-)

The integration with Hictu! took just a couple of days thanks to Hictu’s new set of APIs and the great support we got from HelloTXT.

HelloTXT is currently all you need if you want to update your status / send a “micro” blog post on various social networks and microblogging services. The list of supported services is impressive and I know for sure they are adding many more in the following days.

Users can update their status by using the very well designed user interface as well as Google Talk, SMS or email.

The services you are subscribed to are displayed on the right sidebar of your HelloTXT interface and you can also populate your posts by uploading pictures (through TwitPic) or videos (by embedding it).

A history of your posts is always available and you can check where and when you posted what.

They also have a very simple and usable mobile version that can be used to update your status while on the go. This is how it look slike on my Nokia N95:

What to say, congrats to HelloTXT for the fantastic service and the great job they are doing and I’m really proud my company’s video micro blogging service Hictu is now available on HelloTXT as well.

Still not on HelloTXT? Join it here.

Video microblogging and Statistics

Tags: , , , , , ,

I was playing with Alexa to see how my company’s video microblogging Hictu was performing since the launch of version 2.0.

I have to say I’ve been much surprised about the results. While Seesmic, thanks to the popularity of his CEO, the enormous amount of money they received and the huge visibility they get everyday on Techcrunch was “dominating” this slice of market, things are a little bit changing now.

Hictu 2.0 is not performing bad and the difference with 1.0 is evident. In addition, other players are coming out, like 12seconds.tv and Phreadz.com. I look forward to seeing what happens in the next months and, in particular, whether micro video blogging will finally get to a mass usage or it will remain a thing for a niche.

The question is: is Twitter for the masses instead?

Look at this: Twitter vs Seesmic.

Ok, microblogging vs video microblogging 1-0. But, let’s see Facebook vs Twitter:

Phweet gives voice for Twitter

Tags: , , , , ,

I’m not used to read blog posts on my Nokia E61 while on the go, but yesterday there was an exception. While I was waiting for my flight I came across a post by Stuart Henshall which caught my attention more than others.

The blog post was about the ability to make an escalation from a discussion on Twitter to a real call. I read it and thought of what we did on my company’s video microblogging Hictu. On Hictu you can easily call your friends through Skype, Gizmo, Abbeyphone but, above all, through Jajah , whose button is integrated in every user profile and lets you make an excalation from a microblogging conversation to a regular phone call (an example below).

screen-capture-233.png

Anyway, Stuart was thinking of something different, much more integrated with twitter. When back at home yesterday evening, here is the response: Phweet . Stuart and David Beckemeyer, the PhoneGnome man, are the persons behind this interesting mashup between voice and Twitter.

screen-capture-232.png

The usage is very easy: you just have to insert your Twitter data on Phweet then insert the nickname of the person you want to call to (let’s say @john). An unique url is created for the call and a message is sent (through your Twitter account) to @john with the link to join the call. Here is what this looks like when I invited my friend @Muzedon:

That link points to:

You can choose your preferred method to be called: on the browser with a SIP URI or through other services like Gizmo, PhoneGnome or Free World Dialup.

All the methods above are free of course, but calling to a regular phone is not available yet. It’s clear that it’s not going to be free, but maybe it will be the most usable and quick way to get connected.

The service is in public alpha for testing purposes. I highly recommend to check it out since I believe it’s going to become more and more interesting and feature-rich as they are closer to an official public launch, due in 100 days now.

iPhone 3G giveaway from Hictu!

Tags: , , , , , , ,

Do you want a cool new Apple iPhone 3G (unlocked, of course!)? Ok, this is the right place to get one. My company’s micro video blogging service Hictu is giving it away to a lucky user.

How to apply? Since many people are taking a break in this period, you may want to wish them to enjoy themselves (or maybe not, if you are at your desk and your colleague just left to the Caribbean…).

Ok, now you can do that. You just need to subscribe to Hictu (if you need an invite, please just drop me a line or leave a comment to this post) and to record your video with your vacation greetings for your friends and family, from today July 28th to Aug 20th, 12am PST. Then, share it with them (you can easily find the “share” link on your video) and ask them to leave their video comments on Hictu. For those that are subscribed to Twitter, I also remind you that your posts can be automatically shared on Twitter too.

If your friends are not subscribed to Hictu yet, you can easily send them an invite from your personal page.

The video greeting that receives more video comments (from unique users) is going to be the lucky winner of a brand new Apple iPhone 3G. The winner will be officially announced at the end of August on this blog.

If you have a blog with many visitors and you want to leverage them, just install the Hictu Video Comments plugin for Wordpress and publish a blog post with your video embedded on it. Video comments to that post made by using the Hictu plugin are allowed too!

What are you waiting for? Go to www.hictu.com and record & share your video for your friends, family and colleagues, it’s gonna be fun.

BONUS: the best video (i.e. the video the Hictu team will like most) will become the “favorite” and will appear on the Hictu homepage for 1 month.

Hictu! Wordpress Plugin gets an Update

Tags: , , , ,

The new version of my company’s video micro blogging service Hictu, comes with a Wordpress plugin which lets you integrate video comments into your Wordpress blog.

wp-2-1.0-button.gif

Today it gets a major update, becoming more and more a standalone commenting plugin for Wordpress.

Here is the list of features:

Wordpress Hictu Plugin v1.1

  • Text Comments (1000 chars MAX)
  • Video comments
  • Audio comments
  • Mixed: video/audio + text comments
  • Video comments through a Youtube or Google video
  • Anyone can comment, leaving his name/nick and website
  • If you are a Hictu user and you have an open session on your browser, your nickname is recognized automatically
  • Ability to completely replace the standard Wordpress comments section

In order to integrate this plugin into your blog, you need to be registered to Hictu. Currently you need an invite to sign up, so please just leave a comment to this post and I’ll drop you an invite. I recommend to have two Hictu accounts, one for yourself and one for your blog, so all the conversations around your posts will appear on Hictu too, letting Hictu users discuss on your posts, too.

Last but not least, other minor enhancements are available, like many new moods!

If you want to give it a try, please leave a comment down here!

Posty, Microblogging Made Easy

Tags: , , ,

Posty is a little AIR-based app which lets you easily post to multiple microblogging services all at once. It’s similar to the web based HelloTXT but it is a desktop client instead.

Posty Screencast from funkyboy on Vimeo.
I’ll try it out and look forward to seeing my company’s Hictu integrated soon. You can download it here.
