I just attended a coktail reception kindly offered by Avaya at the Hotel Westin in Loas Angeles, where most part of TMCNet Internet & Expo Conference attendees are staying. I had a nice chat with Rich Tehrani and Jon Arnold and we agreed that many people who used to attend VON conferences are here together with many people who used to work for Pulvermedia. VON was made of a community and this community is just moving on.

Richard Grigonis, Carl Ford, Todd Keefe and many others I used to meet during VON events are here at ITExpo, bringing to TMCNet their huge experience and unvaluable skills.
It’s funny, Rich told me that many people who used to attend VON do believe VON still exists and they are planning to go to Boston for VON Fall 2008. Their website is still up, so why not? I heard many people did show up for VON Europe in Amsterdam this spring, so I’m not surprised at all.
By the way, this is my first ITExpo so I look forward to taking a look around and comparing it to VON, a conference I used to attend regularly.

Thomas Howe’s blog post caught my attention today. It’s all about MagicJack, a VoIP service based on an USB/ATA device, which is advertising on web and TV, through messages and claims that Thomas defines “misleading“.

Take a look at Tom’s post and judge by yourself. I haven’t seen those ads, but knowing Tom’s expertise and after I had a look at their website, I bet he’s right.
If you want more comments on MagicJack, take a look at Jon Arnold’s post and at Ike Elliot’s price comparison.

For those who, like me, are already missing VON conferences, I recommend to read this blog post by pal Jon Arnold. It’s a thoughtful post on why VON has been shut down and what there can be next.
Who knows, maybe eComm is really the event that will take the place left by VON in terms of innovation in the communication space. No doubt, eComm is in pole position right now and, unlike my initial doubts, I can definitely say that Lee Dryburgh did a great job this year.

My first article on Mobile Voice Services is just available at IPConvergence.TV.

For those who don’t know about IPConvergence.TV yet, I highly recommend to check it out. It’s a complete resource of interviews, perspectives and thoughtful opinions about VoIP, Telecoms, FMC, Mobility, IPTV and everything related to IP Communications. It’s an important resource for any player in this market, from service providers to key decision makers.
Who’s behind this? There are many important partners supporting this project and the Portal Editor is Jon Arnold, well known senior analyst in this space, who blogs regularly at Jon Arnold’s Blog. Jon invited me to submit a contribution to this project when we met during eComm in March and I’ve been glad to do that.
That said, I would like to thank Jon for having given me the opportunity to join this stunning group of thought leaders. Hope my contribution and my perspective will be helpful for the community.
