Mediaring Mobile VoIP, Why They Didn’t Get It

Mediaring, a Singapore-based company which is popular for being one of the pioneers of VoIP (founded in 1993), announced the availability of their Mobile VoIP solution.

Flipping through their web pages, I immediately realized that they didn’t get it. They arrive late to the party, in a very crowded market where players already understood what is good and what is not good for users, not giving user experience the right importance it deserves.

First of all, only 8 handsets are supported and the Nokia N95 is not there. Secondly, you can make “FREE CALLS” to other Mediaringmobile users who are running the same client and both are under wifi coverage.

I forgot: before installing, make sure to check the firmware version of your phone, something that normal people are definitely not familiar with.

Truphone, for example, was doing this three years ago (maybe more) and they are far ahead in terms of user experience, usability and, with Truphone Anywhere, in terms of potential target market for the service.

Sorry guys, mine is a thumb down.
