Pal Pat Phelan just announced the availability of a white label version of his popular mobile global calling solution MaxRoam. He already pre announced this to me a couple of weeks ago and I’m happy to see that they are executing according to their plans.

Can I have my own brand?
Well now you can .Let us take care of everything, world class website, personalized logo on all your sims, hosting on dedicated servers, free mail-server, 24/7 customer service and all launched in four weeks
All you need to launch your own global cellphone company is in this package

Roaming charges are one of the main nightmares for anyone who travels very often around the globe. Instead of changing this or that SIM card, changing phone numbers continuously and loosing control of their “identity” (in terms of telephony…), they can now have only one SIM and it could be branded by their own enterprise now. Think of big companies with X thousand employees… what a perfect solution for them.

Pat continues to be an innovator and telecom disruptor and the mobile market cannot but thank him for his contribution. More at Pat Phelan’s blog.

Robert Scoble vs Startups at Demo’08

In the past days there was a discussion going on after Robert Scoble’s attack to ALL the startups attending Demo08.

Pat Phelan and Alec Saunders posted a reply in their own blogs stating Robert should have been more tactful in highlighting the cons of those startups, since there is surely a lot of work behind each of them and he’s not in the position to criticize them since he never built a startup himself.

My opinion is slightly different. While I do believe Robert has not been tactful at all and maybe he has never been in the position of those 72 entrepreneurs behind those companies, his opinion has to be respected anyway. The real point here is that he has a lot of influence in the tech world and in the blogsphere so his opinion weighs much and it can lead to reactions like those by Alec or Pat.

All that said, I think one of the main advantages of blogging is the ability to say what you think sincerely, without the fear to be censored but, ath the same time, with the risk to be criticized. If all those companies were wise enough, they would take much care of what Robert said, since at the end of the day he’s a power consumer of anything is on the web so his opinion is worth more than that of other users. Robert also pointed out that his opinion was about the websites of those companies, not the products and when I read  his post a second time, I didn’t really found any brutal attack to those entrepreneurs.

By the way, Robert took all this criticism in a constructive way and posted all the comments he received in his blog. The best one? This:

“I love how people think Robert Scoble is famous. He’s not - he’s just a talentless, fat, annoying, douche bag.”

He also finally posted a “nice thing” for each of those companies. Check them out.

Telecom Disruptor Pat Phelan posted an interesting message on Twitter, stating he’s going to unlock fifty iPhone 3G during the upcoming TechCrunch 50 conference taking place in San Francisco on September 8-10.

The unlocking procedure will be free of charge for everyone and you can finally start using your iPhone 3G with your favorite mobile operator.

Is Pat going to use this procedure?

If you own an iPhone and are nearby, don’t forget to come by Pat and ask him to unlock your phone and enjoy some giveaways he is preparing for the attendants.

I’m ready

Tags: , ,

Pat asks if we are ready or not to switch to a pro Twitter account. Twitter is surely not the best service in terms of reliability and many times using their APIs or the service itself is really painful. It seems that Pat is ready to pay.

Am I ready to pay? Yes, I am. Some months ago I wrote a post where I tried to design a draft of an Internet where the main services we are used to suddenly stop to be free. I would like to expand Pat’s question: what services are you willing to pay? By the way, in that post I proposed a Twitter “pro” for $0,01/update.

Take a look at my previous post then please leave your thoughts.
