VON is Here

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I just attended a coktail reception kindly offered by Avaya at the Hotel Westin in Loas Angeles, where most part of TMCNet Internet & Expo Conference attendees are staying. I had a nice chat with Rich Tehrani and Jon Arnold and we agreed that many people who used to attend VON conferences are here together with many people who used to work for Pulvermedia. VON was made of a community and this community is just moving on.

Richard Grigonis, Carl Ford, Todd Keefe and many others I used to meet during VON events are here at ITExpo, bringing to TMCNet their huge experience and unvaluable skills.

It’s funny, Rich told me that many people who used to attend VON do believe VON still exists and they are planning to go to Boston for VON Fall 2008. Their website is still up, so why not? I heard many people did show up for VON Europe in Amsterdam this spring, so I’m not surprised at all.

By the way, this is my first ITExpo so I look forward to taking a look around and comparing it to VON, a conference I used to attend regularly.

Skype vs Open Source

Tags: , , , , ,

My post about Open Source VoIP led to an interest comment by Rich Tehrani to which I replied with the following Hictu video comment. I really would like to have someone at Skype joining us during the panel about Open Source I’m going to moderate during the Internet Telephony Conference&EXPO in LA. I think the discussion would suddenly become much hotter…

Any volunteer out there?

Engaged for Internet Telephony Conference & Expo 2008

Tags: , , , , ,

Internet Telephony Conference & Expo 2008 West by TMCNet will take place in Los Angeles on 16-18 September 2008, second event after the east one in Miami which took place last March. It’s an historical event,  which brings together professionals in any field of IP communications, who meet there to share their visions on what’s going on in the VoIP industry and unified communications.

Unfortunately, after the sudden demise of VON, Internet Telephony Conference & Expo remains the only conference specifically targeted to the VoIP market, with a special attention to technologies and services for SMBs, Enterprises and Government agencies.

eComm is the new entrant in this scenario, but much different from both VON and TMCNet’s conference, so I think the conferences’ landscape in the field of IP Communications and “Emerging” Communications is really very equilibrated right now.

All that said, I’m happy to announce that I’ll be attending the show as a speaker, moderating the panel discussion on “Advantages of Open Source VoIP“. Kerry Garrison from Fonality and Ming Yong from Voiceroute are already in, too, even if the agenda is not completely finalized yet. I should be spending a few weeks in California in September to take care of all the activities I started last November, so the timing is definitely perfect for me.

It looks like it’s going to be a very exciting event and I’m really looking forward to it. I also look forward to finally meeting Rich Tehrani and Tom Keating, bloggers and VoIP experts that I haven’t had the opportunity to meet yet but that I regularly follow on their must-read blogs.
