I just discovered this interesting desktop Twitter client that really rocks. After playing with clients like Thwirl (slow) and Twitterrific (too many errors…) on my Macbook, I came across this open source client developed with Adobe AIR that, in my opinion, is really promising.
The look and feel is completely customizable and if your are geek enough, you can design your own CSS too. The number of available features is impressive:
Cross-platform: available on all AIR-compatible platforms: Windows, OS X, and Linux
Open source software using a New BSD-style license (source available at Spaz Google Code project site)
Written in pure Javascript, XHTML and CSS.
Utilizes the powerful jQuery Javascript framework No ads Markdown syntax support
Multiple themes User-defined CSS “overrides” Minimize to systray (windows);
optional auto-hiding and showing
Adding favorite messages and deleting sent messages
Event sounds using the Tokyo Train Station soundset by Dominik Dimaano
View updates from users you’re following, direct messages, replies (@…), and the public timeline
Auto-refreshing timelines
Quicklinks to sent direct messages or replies to any user
Directory listings of users you’re following, and your followers.
Debugging tools (Firebug lite) and debug logging
At first sight it’s working very well on my Macbook and it seems to be very stable. The best part of the story is that the source code is available to developers who can contribute to add new features to the client. Definitely a desktop Twitter client to watch closely.
