Tags: , , , ,

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

One of the most popular web-based cross posting services for microblogging and social networks, HelloTXT, is now available with the ability to post to my company’s video microblogging service Hictu!.

Video posting is not available yet… anyway stay tuned, more exciting news will follow very soon:-)

The integration with Hictu! took just a couple of days thanks to Hictu’s new set of APIs and the great support we got from HelloTXT.

HelloTXT is currently all you need if you want to update your status / send a “micro” blog post on various social networks and microblogging services. The list of supported services is impressive and I know for sure they are adding many more in the following days.

Users can update their status by using the very well designed user interface as well as Google Talk, SMS or email.

The services you are subscribed to are displayed on the right sidebar of your HelloTXT interface and you can also populate your posts by uploading pictures (through TwitPic) or videos (by embedding it).

A history of your posts is always available and you can check where and when you posted what.

They also have a very simple and usable mobile version that can be used to update your status while on the go. This is how it look slike on my Nokia N95:

What to say, congrats to HelloTXT for the fantastic service and the great job they are doing and I’m really proud my company’s video micro blogging service Hictu is now available on HelloTXT as well.

Still not on HelloTXT? Join it here.

Video microblogging and Statistics

I was playing with Alexa to see how my company’s video microblogging Hictu was performing since the launch of version 2.0.

I have to say I’ve been much surprised about the results. While Seesmic, thanks to the popularity of his CEO, the enormous amount of money they received and the huge visibility they get everyday on Techcrunch was “dominating” this slice of market, things are a little bit changing now.

Hictu 2.0 is not performing bad and the difference with 1.0 is evident. In addition, other players are coming out, like 12seconds.tv and Phreadz.com. I look forward to seeing what happens in the next months and, in particular, whether micro video blogging will finally get to a mass usage or it will remain a thing for a niche.

The question is: is Twitter for the masses instead?

Look at this: Twitter vs Seesmic.

Ok, microblogging vs video microblogging 1-0. But, let’s see Facebook vs Twitter:

How to Use Video Micro Blogging

Tags: , , ,

WebWorkerDaily, the popular blog which belongs to the GigaOM network and offers tips on how to increase your daily productivity (and much more), gives some interesting tips on how to use video micro blogging effectively for your work. Here is their list:

1. Enhanced comments. If you are going back and forth with a client, you could video your responses to one another and have a record of the dialogue that is much easier to follow than text where misunderstandings can be rampant.

2. Time zone busting. If you are working with others in another time zone, coordinating video Skype calls might be too much effort all the time. With video microblogging, you can record your thoughts then when you get up the next day, your colleague’s video thoughts are waiting for you.

3. Easy demos and feedback. You can’t beat a video when it comes to demonstrating something when you can’t be there in person. You can record a demo of something, and then put it out to your team for feedback. Then again, most of what we do is on the Web and screencasts may work better for many of us.
I was at the BizJam Seattle conference this week and I asked about some potential business applications of video microblogging for Web workers. “Use it for how tos for your products and to show examples of your work,” answered Jim Turner of One By One Media.

4. Cheap video. It was only a few years ago that many of us avoided doing video because of the production expense. Now using the little built-in camera on your laptop is perfectly acceptable recording equipment for Web broadcast quality.
“Press releases are dead,” says Saul Colt of Freshbooks.com, who was also at BizJam. “You can use video microblogging to announce new information, use it for customer testimonials.”

Let me jump in and add some more useful usages you can make of video micro blogging:

  1. Video reviews: add video reviews of your products and ask for feedbacks to your customers
  2. Daily shows: you can move your internet video show to a video micro blogging service in order to improve interactivity and participation
  3. Video Polls: polls can be much more detailed through video… not 0-1 responses but more participation and detailed opinions
  4. Video Previews: give s short video preview of the content of your new blog post, podcast, video show etc.
  5. Greetings: an easy way to send video greetings messages and get responses from your friends and family! (not really for work, but useful…)
  6. Blog Video Comments: if you have a company blog, video comments can improve the way you interact with your customers/suppliers/visitors
  7. How-To Videos: use a video to record HOWTOs
  8. Lessons: why not publishing video lessons and give your students a great way to join the conversation and leave comments?
  9. Interviews: a great way to involve your network and make them participate in the conversation around you latest video interview
  10. Reportages: are you a journalist? share your reportage with your contacts and ask for video comments or for other videos

How do you use video microblogging? Leave a comment to this post, better on the Hictu video comments section!.
