Share Why I’m Using My RSS Feed Reader Less and Less

- Image via CrunchBase
I just wanted to share with you my experience with my RSS feed reader, something I found myself using less and less in the past weeks.
Despite this low usage, the strange thing is that I’m reading more articles / blog posts than ever. Apparently, this should be a counter-sense, but it’s actually not. Let me explain.
In the past two months my usage of Twitter has increased a lot. I’m using it more and more, in particular since I got a Blackberry and installed my favorite Twitter app on it, Socialscope.
I also started selecting people I follow carefully, thanks to tools like MrTweet or to a special attention I put on this activity. Last but not least, I find myself using the “Favorite” option more and more, as a way to “bookmark” interesting tweets.
The result? Every day I look at my favorite folder and find a lot of great, pre-selected content to consume, recommended by people I trust and follow who have common interests with me. Most tweets I favorite have a link into them, that means they point to high quality content.
This process brings to my table more valuable content than what I can get browsing my feeds on Google Reader. That helps, of course, but you end up reading always the same blogs and loose a lot of time selecting stuff you are interested in and taking it out from the noise.
What’s your experience? I’ll never give up on my RSS feed reader, of course, but I will definitely use it in a wiser way, with Twitter playing a more important role in my process of consuming content on the internet.
